Activities on the Isle of Harris

The Island of Harris is the Southern part of the 'Long island', the Northern part being Lewis. Harris is mountainous with An Clisham it's highest point at 799m (2621ft). The Eastern seaboard is rugged and contrasts starkly with the fertile south-western shores where the Atlantic waters have formed a great many superb beaches, some of which stretch for miles. The South western area is a haven for bird watchers and walkers. The local lochs, with their salmon and trout fishing are a paradise for fishermen. No 6 is ideally situated for these pursuits and more ...

Birdwatching is possible. Golden eagles, lapwings, herons, seabirds galore, swans, geese, ducks, corncrakes and much more.
Otters may be spotted if you are in the right place at the right time.
If you are a keen Fisherman, give Obbe fishings a call for a permit.
The famous Scarista Golf course is one of the 'best little golf course in the world'. The spectacular location is worth a look if nothing else and a great way to see the island is to cycle. Harris is steeped in history and a visit to Rodel church can be the start of a tour of the past. The island has now become the focus of attention from archaeologists, a lot is being discovered and a lot is being learned about the islands' prehistoric inhabitants.
Take day trips on the ferry to Berneray & the Uists for wonderful days out. Drive to Callanish to see the standing stones and on to Carloway to see the Broch. And of course there is always Stornoway for shopping, eating and entertainment. There are also plenty of stunning drives on Harris.
